About us

Poole Young Carers is a small charity with a local focus
run entirely by volunteers and no operating costs.

Our trustees raise funds and work in partnership with
the local authority and other charities. We make
sure the funding makes a difference to the lives of young carers. Our trustees are Andrew Flockhart, Pauline Gill, Maggie Harris, Jo Collis-Heavens
Jan Thurgood MBE and Ollie Thorneycroft.

Ray and Jean raised money to support the work of the charity
and worked closely with the local children’s social care services
to develop an annual programme of events and days out for
the young carers.

Charity number 1132518 registered with the Charity Commission
in the name of Ray Smith’s Young Carers (Poole).

The charity was created by the late Ray Smith MBE and his wife Jean in 2003. At the time Ray Smith was a councillor and Mayor of the Borough of Poole. During his year as Mayor he learned about the lives of children and young people in Poole who shoulder caring responsibilities every day for a member of their family. He was so moved by this that, together with his wife Jean, he founded the charity.

Help us give young
carers the opportunity
to be
a child for a day.
